Emerge “Woman to Woman” Project
Emerge Nevada is changing the face of Nevada politics by identifying, training and encouraging women to run for office, get elected and to seek higher office. Our intensive, cohort-based seven-month training program is unique. As the number of elected Democratic women remains flat or even declines, the need for our work is growing.
In the 148 years since its statehood, Nevada has elected a total of 3 women to the U.S. House of Representatives, and has never elected a woman to the U.S. Senate, or as Governor of Nevada. Currently, less than 26% of Nevada State legislators are women.
A pool of highly qualified Democratic candidates is being left untapped. Too often, women do not see themselves running for office—they assume they aren’t experienced enough or they don’t know where to begin. Nevada is changing that!
On September 1st, Emerge Nevada launched its first ever “Woman to Woman” Vote Program, recruiting women to go out and talk to other women in their area about the issues that matter most.. Since we started we have already contacted over 17,000 women voters. But we have a lot of work and need more help.
We are recruiting volunteers and working to make sure Our Voices are heard loud and clear on Election Day 2012!
