The Emerge Nevada application process for the Debbie Smith Class of 2016 will take place from June 25, 2016 through October 22, 2016. After applications have been reviewed, finalists will be invited to interview with our selection committee. The class will be selected after completion of the interviews. You can find and complete the application online at

Selection Criteria

Emerge Nevada seeks bright, self-motivated women who are committed to effective political leadership and are committed to run for elective office and who have:

  • evidence of political leadership experience or potential, and meaningful involvement in workplace or community
  • interest in running for political office
  • demonstrated ability to bring together disparate groups to achieve a goal
  • ability and desire to build effective networks
  • ability to articulate a personal political vision
  • demonstrated ability to inspire others
  • commitment to full participation and attendance requirements of the trainings

Applicants must be women who are Democrats and who reside in the state of Nevada.

Emerge Nevada will select up to 25 women from across the state who meet the above criteria and who we believe have the potential to be political leaders.

Emerge embraces diversity and strongly encourages applications from all women regardless of age, race, color, national or ethnic origin, marital status, religious affiliation, sexual orientation or physical abilities.

All trainings will be held in Las Vegas unless otherwise specified.

Tuition for the Emerge Nevada Program is $500. Students are required to raise an additional $500 through fundraising efforts during the course of their training.

Tuition offsets the cost of Emerge Nevada's out-of-pocket costs for providing the weekend training sessions. Emerge Nevada believes that individual circumstances should NOT be a barrier to participation in the program. Partial financial aid may be awarded after admission to the program.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required and must be submitted along with a completed application. Please remit payment online or mail a check or money order payable to Emerge Nevada to 848 N. Rainbow Blvd., #3, Las Vegas, NV 89107.

Senator Debbie Smith

The Class of 2016 has been named after Senator Debbie Smith. Senator Smith was a wife, mom, grandmother, and a beloved member of our Advisory Counci. She was a very strong advocate of our program. The world lost Senator Smith on February 21, 2016 - before we could give her the Tenacity/Courage award at a reception we had planned to hold in her honor.

She was a big believer in bringing up other women behind her and we hope she would be pleased to know that her name will be forever associated with a dynamic group of women who will be Nevada's future women political leaders.

The deadline to apply is April 29, 2016. Click here to apply or for more information about our program, click here.
